Outline 

The Course is designed to ensure that candidates are aware of the hazards involved in carrying out excavations particularly in relation to underground services. The course will provide candidates with the required skills to carry out suitable investigations.  

Aims 

To provide attendees with the required skills and knowledge to carry out appropriate investigations for underground services prior to commencing any operations where these services may be disturbed, this includes all excavating and road cutting operations. 

Who should attend/Pre-Requisites  

Candidates over 18 years of age in receipt of current Safe Pass Card, and previous experience of carrying out these operations within the last two years. 

Irish PPSN.

Good understanding of written and spoken English (if not a SOLAS approved interpreter will be required) 

This course is aimed at operatives who do not currently hold a CSCS ticket.

• Safe working procedure

• CAT Modes – Power, Radio, Genny

• Use of CAT – Searching, Pinpointing, Tracing

• Use of Genny – Induction, Direct Connection, Clamping

• Lost signals, nulling out, depth finding

• Safety in excavations 

• Safe backfilling 

• Requirement for Signing, Lighting & Guarding 

• Requirement for Health & Safety at Roadworks 

• Practical test 

• Multiple choice assessment and completion.
